The little twirly bin at the thrift store is always filled with plastic bags of small toys, usually marked 50 cents.

In a few plastic bags I found all of this treasure!

Can you believe it?

I was very sad when Sunday came cold and rainy. Our plan was to go to the Allegan Antiques Flea Market, but it was so dark to the south of us that we headed north instead. I found these along the lake shore between Holland and Grand Haven. And this isn't all. There are three more canisters and six spice jars. What a deal. I have wanted a set for a very long time. They aren't perfect, but the price was. And when we went to pay we discovered that they were also on sale. And yes, I am going to use them. My Truvia is in the sugar canister and my green tea is in the tea canister.
The four spice jars on the middle shelf were also a Traverse City find. They are cute and fit in perfectly. These were one of those finds that had me singing for joy (well, in my head anyway...) for the rest of the day.
Look what I found while on vacation in May! It's been a busy summer. I've done quite a bit of thrift and antique shopping, but more often I'm buying practical and kid friendly things. But I just HAD to show you the adorable baby plate I found somewhere in Traverse City. Oh, and there is more.., of course, there is more. So stay tuned.
Yesterday I found another spice jar to add to my collection.
I really like the three matching ones on the top shelf, but since it is highly unlikely to find a deal like that again, I'm perfectly happy to be looking for spice jars that do NOT match.
So I bought the one on the middle shelf and to the far right.
This blue swan planter has been at a local antiques mall for years and years. When I first started admiring it the cost was much higher. Yesterday, it was reasonable so it is now mine.
I can see that I have to balance out the color on these shelves a bit, but it sure does look like the blue swan is "at home" on my breeze-way.Simply Thrifthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03392420511685862090noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1575692026078207104.post-5387761534044857012013-03-24T20:32:00.001-04:002013-03-24T20:32:53.937-04:00Twenty-five Cent Saucers

The thrift shopping hasn't been the greatest for me lately. Not that I'm putting a great deal of effort into it. But I was thrilled to find eight Johnson Brother's Snowhite Regency saucers for 25 cents a piece. My plan is to make them into cupcake stands. I've got at least eight glass candle sticks I can glue them to. And, they will match my china!
It's difficult to photograph things under glass. But, my most recent purchase was this lovely ironstone pie bird. The twig and the nest are bits from the yard. The dome, doily, Scrabble letters, and hymn book page are thrift finds. The eggs are pistachios that wouldn't open. Three weeks ago I found a Bailey's creamer.

It was priced WAY too high.

Two weeks ago I found this Bailey's creamer, and it was priced just right.

And now?

Now I shall be on the look-out for a Bailey's sugar bowl.

My favorite thing about these? When I take a picture of them my camera asks, "Did someone blink?"

Why yes, someone did.
As unbelievable as it seems, I HAVE gotten rid of some of my collection of blue dishes.

Since I don't have a lot of room for anything more, I'm a bit more picky.

Recently I found the 'pepper' spice jar that is now on the center shelf. This was at an antique mall and the price was very good. After I bought it I found a bunch of similar spice jars for three times as much, so I think I did pretty good!

I also found a small tea pot with a small cup and saucer.

Of course, I shall be tweaking this shelf forever.
I found a box FILLED with Tinker Toys over the weekend. They were neatly sorted. And although they don't show in this picture, still have the original green cardboard pieces that make the 'windmill' parts.

Amazingly how well-preserved these are.

Although these did not come in the original box, I already have two.

I love how old things look in glass jars. Don't you?

It isn't often that I find something for my pretty pink bathroom.

But I found her, and she looked like she would be happy to hold something for me in her sweet little basket.

I'm not sure what yet. Q-tips would be the obvious choice. But they are tempting to the little boys and I don't want them falling into the pretty pink toilet if they were to climb up to get some.

So most likely I shall fill her basket with lavender.

She has an honest face. I think I can trust her.
For some time now I've had my eye out for a smaller bird cage. I saw this one a few weeks back and wished it were mine. Last weekend I had a wee bit of cash to spend on me, and since I've been trying to spring it up in here I bought it. It now sits on my piano. Wouldn't it be nice if I took a picture of what the top of the piano looks like now? Yes. That would be nice. But the top of the piano is also where I put everything I don't want little people to mess with. So it's a mess up there. But soon, soon I'll get a better picture. I sort of promise.Simply Thrifthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03392420511685862090noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1575692026078207104.post-25857410756653942602013-03-13T09:55:00.000-04:002013-03-13T09:55:00.351-04:00Thrifted Robins

Since I haven't seen a real Robin yet this year, I dug into my stash of bird pictures. I need to be reminded that Spring IS coming.

Hopefully, I'm back to updating this blog on a more regular basis. One CAN always hope.

At the Allegan County Antiques Flea Market last weekend I found a twin for my 'big doll'. THGGM found the wooden bench. The seat lifts up for storage. I'm thinking maybe for doll clothes? I found the new doll's outfit and shoes for 50% off at my local thrift store today.

I have a few articles of vintage baby clothes for the dolls, but it's more enjoyable to see them being played with by the grand kids. And have you ever noticed how many 3 month size outfits are hanging around thrift stores? Oh, my. These are going to be some well-dressed dolls!

Took a trip to Ditto today.
There I found this adorable doll for $2.50.
I don't really NEED anymore dolls, but I could just tell that she needed me.
Just look at that pout!
And that tear!
I do not have tears, so I find them intriguing, even on a doll.
When I got her home I found some information on her neck.

She is a White Balloon doll, manufactured in Spain.

Her name is Milly.

I really like her.
